Our Mission System design capability provides a one-stop solution for industry leading aerospace design, manufacture & installation of modifications and repairs. For over 14 years we have fulfilled our client’s specific requirements and applied a flexible, efficient and innovative approach using our substantial range of in-house skills, expertise & experience. The team is comprised of a Part 21 aviation design & production / DAOS approved organisation that undertakes a broad range of aircraft design and production services to supply avionic, structural design and certification to a wide variety of commercial, contract prime and military clients across the world.

Mission systems: Flight testing

Our Mission System team possess the ability to carry out Flight Testing under our own approval, commonly referred to as Flight Test Operations Manual (FTOM) approval.

Flight Testing is often required when an aircraft has undergone significant modification which could have an affect on the flight characteristics of the aircraft, such as installation of an external store.
Prior to the approval of the modification the aircraft may have to be flown under Approved Flight Test Conditions (AFC) to gather compliance data needed to approve the modification.

We possess the in-house capability to perform the following:


  • Approval for Flight Test Categories 2 & 4
  • Approval of Flight Test Conditions (AFC)
  • Major Changes & STC’s
  • Validations of Minor Changes, Repairs & STC’s
  • Experienced in working with the vast majority of the world’s NAA’s
  • Experienced in both Civil & Military certification



 


Modification performance testing


To ensure our Mission System modifications and parts meet both our customer and regulatory requirements, we regularly performs testing to establish product performance. Typical testing activities undertaken by us include:

  • Compilation of Qualification Test Plans & Reports
  • Electrical Load Analysis (ELA) testing
  • Retractable Camera Installations
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) & Interference (EMI) testing
  • Flammability, Heat Release, Smoke Density & Toxicity testing

  • RTCA DO-160 Environmental testing (temperature, altitude, vibration, shock etc.)
  • Seat crashworthiness testing

EC135 CARS & AIRS modification

Designs are either minor changes under our own approval, or major changes that result in an EASA supplemental type certificate (STC). We can also undertake design modification on non-EASA certificated aircraft. Typical projects include:

Interior design & modifications

From high-end business jet requirements to mission modifications for Air Ambulance, we provide a range of services for clients which include the full re-role of aircraft to refurbishments of seating.

Electrical design including avionics and mission requirement modifications / upgrades

One of the largest elements of our work with clients is in updating or modifying electrical systems that are fundamental to either the airworthiness of the aircraft or enhance their relevance to changing mission criteria. In all cases our focus is how to cost effectively deliver the client’s mission but also protect / future proof the platform for ‘mission creep’ or predicted changes in air traffic control such as ADS-B Out or TCAS.

Of particular note are the changes in airborne connectivity and how aircraft are being equipped for higher speed data links. This is usually seen to be the domain of applications such as in-flight Wifi for the business aviation sector however it has greater applicability within the Air Ambulance community, with the flow of secure patient data between hospitals, paramedics, land and air services (you can find more on connectivity services here)

Mechanical design & rapid prototyping

Our EASA Part 21J team are well versed in all aspects of the mechanical design process particularly in the field of rapid prototyping and integrated CAD simulation. This area is of particular value in the design process during the final stages of determining the final specifications / requirement definition. This can, depending on the modification, remove the need for costly full cabin mock-ups and models which inherently have a low level of utility after this phase.
